Polygon – a closed shape with sides that do not cross or curve
Congruent – equal measure
Regular Polygon – a polygon that has congruent angle measures and side measures
Equilateral Triangle – a triangle with all sides congruent
Isosceles Triangle – a triangle with at least two sides congruent
Scalene Triangle – a triangle with no congruent sides
Right Angle – and angle that measures exactly 90ْ
Right Triangle – a triangle with exactly one right angle
Acute Angle – an angle that measures between 0º and 90º
Acute Triangle – a triangle with all acute angles
Obtuse Angles – angles that measure between 90º and 180º
Obtuse Triangle – a triangle that has exactly one obtuse triangle
I would have the students create a glossary in their journals with these and other vocabulary words as we encounter them. We would work together to write the definitions. I would have the students draw the figures that correspond with the word. I could also have them cut pictures from magazines and newspapers of the shapes as they occur in our lives.
